I mean the three series of before sunrise, before sunset and
before midnight
For those who have not watched them you missed a lot:
Before sunrise: is about a French girl :” Celine” in a train from Budapest
to her hometown in Paris that got annoyed by those couple fighting and changes
her seat next to that American guy “Jesse” who then
invites her to a coffee in the next train car to avoid the noise. They talk and
talk then his stop comes in Vienna and before leaving he asks her to go with him
for a walk in Vienna and she asks for him to convince her then he tells her
that he is coming from the future and tells her about her miserable marriage and
how would she remember guys she met in the past and tells her if she goes with
him she would in the future know that her husband is not that bad and she would
continue her life !!!!
They spend the night walking in the streets of Vienna
talking, talking and talking and there is the love spark . In the morning he
takes her to the train station before he goes to the airport to catch his plan
and they promise to meet in 6 months’ time in the same place
In the second part: Before sunset he became a writer and
wrote a best seller book about that night and accidently he meets her in a
bookshop in Paris and he asks her why she did not come to their rendezvous and
she says that her grandma died that day
They walk walk and ,talk talk in the streets of Paris and
each one describes how he managed the past 9 years then all of the sudden each
one confesses how that night was his best ever incident in his/ her life and
how miserable they are. She tells him how lonely she feels and how she thinks
that being alone is better than feeling lonely while she is with somebody else.
He tells her that he imagined her in the street in his wedding day and when
they talked he finds out that it was really her !!! . They ask themselves what if they met in
Vienna, what if he really saw her and did not marry his wife, ….The movie ends
that he misses his plane back to America
In the third part : before midnight , after 8 they are married with twin girls after his
divorce and now they are in Greece in his writer tour . Here also the walks
wlaks and talks talks all the way in Greece and now they start fighting each
other on tiny details like any couple in the world. She leaves him and go away
even without her shoes , simply she escapes from him. Then he catches her and keeps talking till midnight and now
they are in good terms again!!!!
What makes the trilogy very special is that they address
your self dialogue to yourself, the long walks and talks and the dialogue are amazing.
Some quotes simple play music in your mind like her describing her life is “the
pleasure is not in the goal but in the tiny details of how you achieve the goal”
Manage your day as if it is your last day “every day is your
last day” . When she describes how she was usually late to school then her
mother found out that she was watching chestnuts falling from the trees and
rolling on the street, shadows of leaves, ants crossing the streets “this is
exactly me!!!”
They reveal a secret in the third part when talking to an
old man who never forgot his late wife when he tells them that their secret was
keeping distance and finally the best quote ever in third part: “At the end of the day it is not the
love of one person that matters but the love of life”
The
three parts describe the story of love from start, how they got lost, the reunion,
the daily problems of married couples and how they came back to each other
The
most important is the dialogue when they talk lots of problems are revealed and
solved in the three parts so it looks like an advice from the author “please talk BEFORE it is too late " !!!
P.S : my favorite is part 2 , it is classified as one of the most romantic movies ever
